The Ant Song

(Steve and Ainsley Apirana)
The Ant Song
Written by Steven Apirana

I passed by the field of the sluggard

And by the vineyard of the man lacking sense

And behold it was completely overgrown

It’s surface was covered with nettles

And its stone wall broken down

I looked and reflected upon it

I saw and received instruction

A little sleep, a little slumber

A little folding of the hands

Then your poverty will come upon you

Like a thief, like a vagabond

Go to the ant, O sluggard

Observe her ways and be wise

Which having no chief

Officer or ruler

Prepares her food in the summer-time

And gathers her provision in the harvest
